David Black

David Black is the Managing Partner at DB Business Brokerage. David Black has been working with Jordan Rohrer for the past decade as Jordan’s individual and business tax accountant. For the last decade, David has worked closely with Jordan to refine both his personal and professional financial procedures and practices. When the accounting firm that introduced them dissolved, it made perfect sense that they go into business together.

David has a diverse portfolio thanks to his experience working as a CPA. After he received his Bachelor of Arts in Accounting from Mary Baldwin College in 2000, he went on to graduate with a Master’s in Business Administration from James Madison University in 2003. David has worked as a controller for a closely-held manufacturing company that specialized in government contracts, and spent several years as a cost accountant with one of the nation’s leading manufacturers of textile and related products. During this time, he was able to refine his skills in inventory management, financial and business planning, payroll, shipping and processing inventory, and managing and reviewing financial records. Each of these aspects of business is a crucial component to understanding and ascertaining the value of a company.

Since beginning his practice in Harrisonburg in 2002, David has acted as an advisor for a variety of businesses selling or transitioning to new ownership, the majority of which sought his counsel and aid in the process.  His services ranged from valuing the company and assigning a fair market price for the seller to installing the inventory system and advising on business plans for the buyer, and he has a particular expertise in transitioning businesses to new ownership, such as generational business successions. In fact, he has spoken at several seminars on transitioning family farms to the younger generation from the older.

David’s various experiences as a CPA have gifted him the expertise to assign a fair market value to a business that is both satisfying for the seller, as well as accommodating for the buyer. Once the competitive marketing techniques utilized in our process have precipitated offers, David will collaborate with the potential buyers and attorneys to get your company to closing. This will include the composition of letters of intent and asset purchase agreements, as well as frequent communication with the seller to ensure a smooth transition to new ownership for all parties.

David and his wife, Meredith reside in Rockbridge County, Virginia. David and Meredith have three adopted children, Matthew, Daniel, and Vivienne. David and Meredith are active members of the Buena Vista Pentecostal Holiness Church, where David has served as a deacon and on the Church Council. David enjoys hiking, reading, and working puzzles.
